James 315 Annouces CSM Aims

James 315 has officially announced what he will campaign for when he is on the CSM. The post tells of the problems with the imbalance of risk and reward I explained in my lowsec is broken post, and some radical solutions to the problem. Though I agree with James entirely on all the points he's mentioned there, the sad truth of the matter is that CCP would never allow such a change, and nor would the droves of forum s**tposting miners.

One of the key things that the care bears would disagree on is one that is so crucial to the balance of risk and reward-the removal of most forms of PVE in highsec, including level and 3 and 4 missions and Incursions. You can imagine how much uproar this would cause in the highsec community. For the benefit of any carebears who are reading this, I'll explain to you why this is a great idea and that James isn't doing this to troll you.

Highsec is, as it stands, a land of security and safety; Eve is supposed to be a harsh, unforgiving land. The two just don't work together. You've probably heard this cliché before- Risk=Reward together. However, due to the reasons I outlined in my post "To what Extent has Highsec been Nerfed", this simply isn't true anymore.

Let's take two examples here, on the one hand we have someone who runs incursions all day and someone who runs anomalies in wormholes. Assuming the wormholer is in a C3 wormhole, the levels of income would be roughly the same, though the incursioner would slightly beat him. Yet there is one key difference that separates the two, and you've probably spotted it. One is at such low risk he can afford to carelessly toss faction mods onto his ship, safe in the knowledge he'll never lose them if he doesn't want to. The other carefully pays attention to d-scan and keeps his concentration at all times because at any moment a gang of cloaky T3's could emerge from the shadows and kill him. So can you, as someone in favour of keeping highsec the way it is at the moment, honestly tell me that isn't fair?

Fear not though, for he shall not be picking up your incursions and throwing them in a shredder. They shall only be removed from highsec, meaning you're still welcome to do them in lowsec at far less risk than a wormhole anomaly runner. Another key idea that James mentioned was the 'food chain' of lowsec. I mentioned in my "Lowsec is Broken" post that solo pirating has nearly dried up due to the lack of traffic to lowsec. Restoring the Oaks of the foodchain (the miners and misson runners) will increase the number of solo Caterpillars (pirates), since there is now more motivation to become a pirate, which will in turn feed the Blue Tits (pirate gangs). The food chain extends beyond that, but that is the basis of it.

Even with the backing of the thousands of votes James is sure to get in the CSM elections, CCP is unlikely to iterate this sensible view of the game because so many people would stop playing; but if there are any CCP devs reading this I urge you to think about the sense of this and the number of new players it would bring to the game, as well as the old ones you turned your back on before. It makes sense.

Whatever your opinion, fly safe.
